Skin Facts
The skin is in direct contact with the environment - heat, cold, wind, UV light, bacteria, fungi, viruses, water, chemicals, dust etc. The outer layers of the skin do not receive nutrients directly from the blood supply, they rely on the movement of oxygen and essential nutrients such as vitamins, amino-acids and oils through the layers of skin beneath. Thus in order to be healthy the skin requires a healthy blood supply rich in essential nutrients and oxygen.

In women, blood supply to the skin decreases gradually from the age of 35 and precipitously at the menopause. In men the process is more gradual, which is why they tend to age more gracefully. Once the needs of the skin cannot be satisfied by the blood supply, damage, disease or deterioration will occur. The demands of the skin are linked mostly to the external environment - damaging factors that we will set out below. Internal factors such as illness, acne, allergy and infections can place an extra burden on the skin.  Skin is programmed to repair itself and has the capability of repairing at any age - so it is never too late.

Skin Care

Healthy skin reflects a healthy body. Research continues to underline the necessity for a healthy diet aided by the addition of nutritional supplements. When the demands of the body outweigh the supply of nutrients, the skin is the first organ to show the signs. This may be expressed as damage, disease or deterioration.

Role of skin care and nutrition in maintaining and improving skin health and appearance.

Creams, cleansers, lotions and masks can provide the missing nutrients and substances to the upper layers of skin from the outside inwards. Aided by innovative formulation, many substances pass further into the skin, beyond the dead cell layers to have a real effect in the generation of new skin.

Skin care in the form of nutritional supplements will provide the missing nutrients and substances to the deeper layers of skin from the inside outwards. Combinations of nutrients, pro-nutrients, vitamins and minerals have been created to suit the needs of the individual, their skin, lifestyle and stage in life.

Skin care can account for 50% of skin health. Nutrition will account for the other 50%.

Beauty is more than skin deep - and more complex.

A single, simple molecule that fixes everything does not exist. There is no 'magic bullet', or 'elixir of life'. Research shows us the need to combine ingredients to maximise the benefit of each individual component, and to combine topical treatments such as creams with oral treatments such as supplements. At beautyisskindeep.com we know that beauty is more than skin deep!
